aerelorn- 08-28-2004
Features:

Zooming: I've found direct access to the scenegraph, which allows me to alter the view frustum, which means zooming is possible. I haven't decided whether it will be manual or automatic(like the bowzoom from thief)

Drifting Trajectories: This will modify the Marksman skill of both the Player and NPCs so that every single projectile fired will hit. However, the real skill level will affect the trajectory of the projectile, causing it to drift off it's original trajectory randomly.

Increased Gravity: There'll be a settable variable to make projectiles arc to your preference.

Techniques: Offensive techniques similar to combos from Combat Enhanced. Still working out the details of how these will work.

Sticking Projectiles: Non-enchanted projectiles will stick out of objects(not people). The technique behind this isn't perfect, but the effect outweighs the bad:
  1. If you're standing close to the target, the projectile won't actually exist for even a frame and can't be detected. Just pretend it broke when it hit.
  2. Sometimes projectiles will go all the way into an object so they cannot be seen. Just pretend they broke when they hit. The likelihood of this happening goes up as your FPS goes down.
  3. Sometimes projectiles will stop before the penetrate the object(as seen in screens #3 and #4 below). The likelihood of this happening goes up as your FPS goes down.
  4. Projectiles will stick into everything. Houses, rocks, trees, etc. There's no way to get them to stick into some things and not others.
To mitigate #2 and #3, I think I'm going to have some option that's like Trance at speed 2(1/2 normal speed), but with no fatigue loss. This effectively doubles your FPS and makes things nicer.

This mod won't be out for awhile, as I've got tons of projects to deal with and a generous lack of free time. But it is in the works.

the arrows sticking out of stuff is just too great. makes it so much more realistic

Can't wait biggrin.gif

woohoo! i had an affect on something!(small though it may have been).

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards. There are enough extra keys already without adding another one.

YEEEEEESS!!!! Thank you aerelorn!!!!!!!! I cannot believe this is finally happening!!! My god. Thank you.

Yes, this will definately mean hours of fun.

I think your strength should determine how high you have to aim to hit something. If your strength is 100 you can aim almost right at them and it will hit.

Why can't enchanted projectiles do it? I guess it is realistic in a way. The object would be completely used up after it's effect is cast. Like a scroll. So that is fine.

How about messages saying stuff like: "Your enchanted projectile was used up."
"You were so close to your target that the object broke on impact." "You have to aim higher" "You have to aim lower" for some examples.

A question: Do the projectiles move around as the NPC moves around. Normally I wouldn't think so, but correct me if I am wrong. It would be silly if they just sat in mid air and traveled through their bodies. To remadie this I would think that if the object moved the arrow would fall to the ground.

So glad to see this!!!!

Enchanted arrows are always (I think) destroyed when they hit an NPC. Since this mod is also going to adjust the rate of recoverable arrows in NPCs (100% I belive), it would ruin the game balance to make enchanted arrows stick in the ground/walls when they can't stick in NPCs. MWE will just ignore them instead.

Need to keep this part clear. Arrows will not stick into NPCs - though they will appear in their inventory as a recoverable item. This mod isn't going to be like NWN or other such games where arrows are actually visible on NPCs and creatures. It would be neat, but it simply can't happen. Arrows will stick out of any object that isn't "hit-able".

What about spear impale. It transfers the spear from your inventory into the air infront of you and then it falls to the ground with the dead NPC. Could you not use a similar script?

Can you explain exactly why it isn't possible? huh.gif I mean NPC's are objects too. Arn't they?

That can be done for a single projectile in an insta-kill technique, yes. And I plan to do that. But to have every arrow stick into the NPC just wouldn't work.

Rowan Celtizar- 08-30-2004
Ok, it's just as well. I mean they would look like a pin quishion anyway. And it would shout aloud the unrealism of some of morrowind's aspects...mainly that they wouldn't be moving if they looked like a pin quishion, let alone shouting insults.

Korrow142- 08-30-2004
Can you make it so that after awhile (a day or so) the arrows dissapear?

Rowan Celtizar- 08-30-2004
Yeah something tells me that might be a fps killer. A whole bunch of arrows in a whole bunch of cells....something like the "corpse decompose" would be good.

Yes, after 3 days just like body parts.

So, what do you think about making strength a factor in this aerelorn?
