So, what do you think about making strength a factor in this aerelorn?

That's not a bad idea. What I could do is have two values. So when your strength is 0, it arcs according to the 1st value. When your strength is 100, it uses the 2nd value. And in between it uses the weighted average of the two based on your actual strength.

When it hits beta, I'll collect a list of people's favorite values and add it as a suggestions list to the manual.

Sounds sweet.

While I'm probably in the minority, I'd prefer this above all your other excellent WIPs.

I'll wait, however. I waited for JA mod Movie Battles II build 16...

Is it possible to make the chance of hitting to be affected by the distance? When I have the enemy just in front of me I should have an almost 100% chance to hit.

Read the Drifting Projectiles part. Every shot will always hit. It'll just have a chance to drift(which wouldn't be a problem with point-blank shots).

Rowan Celtizar- 09-01-2004
That kind of confuses me aerelorn. Do you mean that when you shoot the arrow or bolt it has a chance of drifting. But, wait, you said it always hits. So what that leads me to believe is that even if it drifts off target it will hit the target?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In normal Morrowind, if an arrow hits someone your Marksman skill is weighed and determines whether the arrow does damage or is counted as a miss.

In Marksman Enhanced, you get a fortify so your Marksman skill is over 1000. This means every arrow that hits the enemy will be counted for damage and none will miss. But at the same time, your true Marksman skill will be used to affect the trajectory of the arrow.

So if you have a 10 in Marksman, if the arrow hits the enemy it will do damage every time. But it's liable that it'll drift off its path and miss the enemy entirely. Sorry for the confusion.

Ok, I think I understand now.

Can you give us a Rough Release date for the BETA?

No, I can't.

Horray! This is most exciting news! Out of curiosity, would the arrows that are stuck into everything be recoverable? I'd assume so, but I thought I'd ask. It'd be nice to be able to make every arrow count happy.gif. Will Trance affect this at all, such as if you're in trance the drifting is less, so it seems like you're concentrating more, and your shots are more precise, or is it going to be simply as it has always been with Trance, and still rely on the player for the accuracy of it all? Will all projectiles work with this? Throwing stars, darts, and third party marksman weapons too? I'm glad that this mod is finally being made a reality happy.gif I remember it being spoken of back before Combat Enhanced. This is so awesome! The zooming alone sounds great! Will it zoom past your weapon, or will your view of your bow/dart/star still be visible as everything else around you zooms? Would enlarging the crosshair while zooming be a possibility? Not that it would probably be needed, but it'd be something like the aiming rectangle on the bows in Thief happy.gif Keep up the awesomeness Aerelorn! Your work is always most incredible!

Yes.

No, Trance won't have any effect on it. Rage might though, but I haven't decided exactly what Rage will do with marksman yet.

Yes. Throwing stars work the worst though because they're so small.

I'll have to play around with it some more to figure out what looks best. Your first-person weapons and the world are drawn by two different scene graphs, so they can be affected independently.

It's possible, but not desirable. The crosshair is just a bitmap, so it gets all pixelated and ugly and blocks whatever you're trying to aim at.

Sayter27- 09-07-2004
Alright, that crosshair idea's gone then happy.gif For Rage.... Hmmm... Perhaps while in rage have something like quickthrust be a constant thing? I'd imagine any crazed archer firing lots and lots of arrows when in a frenzy... But... Maybe I watch too much anime sleep.gif Anyway, this all sounds great! Could there be some sort of adjustable slider(s) for the zooming, so that people could find their favorite position? Perhaps only for the beta, so you can get feedback on what other's think. I dunno.. Anywho, away I go!

aerelorn- 09-07-2004
Yeah, it might be adjustable. I'll have to try some things out.

What about Hard Throw?(Originally Rowan Celtizar's idea)
Is it possible to make throwing weapons run through enemies?
And about the zoom function:
Will it zoom automatically when we draw the arrow?

I'm not sure that I can do it graphically. So we'll have to see.

Yes, I think so. It won't happen until a few seconds pass and it'll be possible to turn it off.

Ah,that's good to hear, zoom is a good function, but can be annoying if the target is close to you.
You enter a cave, suddenly a man starts running towards you.Spears can't reach there,so you use your bow,but as soon as you draw your arrow,it zooms and you cannot see anything but the man's chest.
That would really be annoying, hopefully sth like that will not happen, because you won't aim for too long when the target is getting close....I think 7 seconds is good before auto-zoom.Not too short, not too long....And maybe you can also put manuel zoom, without waiting, like in thief(You can zoom manually and it zooms automatically after a while..)

And about hard throw...Let's just hope it's possible without major bugs...
